Cationic records emphatic victory

By: Sridhama   July 19 , 2010

Monappa trained Cationic who had scored an emphatic win in her debut earlier in the season, recorded her second successive win with yet another scintillating performance that had her rivals stranded in the T V Reddy Memorial Trophy, a race for three-year olds, the feature event of Monday. Races ran kindly for punters, with well backed horses coming through in the seven event card despite rain interruption after the first two races had been gone through which altered the track conditions significantly.

Cationic who had proved her mettle in her debut, was backed to the exclusion of the others. The progeny of Emerald Cat moved up gradually from the fourth position which she held till straightening for the homestretch. She took charge of the proceedings with a furlong out and sailed clear of front running Aahna. Star of Hearts who was literally loitering at the rear of the field, covered significant ground in the straight to finish an eye-catching third despite lackadaisical effort on the part of the jockey.

The consistent Dare Don relished the soft underfoot conditions as he came from way off the pace to slice through the field and swamp the opposition which included strong favorite Lotus Pond despite the top weight that he was assigned to carry. Apprentice jockey Shiva Kumar did a tidy job on the winner. Native Strategy was a suggestive third.

The seven year old Evanston made mockery of the opposition in the mile long Gundlupet Plate. Evanston was backed down spiritedly while the odds on Archer drifted out close to race time. Archer was prominent till the final bend but thereafter dropped back to end up as a dismal last. Something must have been amiss with the progeny of Brave Act. Hakuna Matata held fort for a brief while before Evanston came home with a big run. Evanston won pulling up by a huge margin.

Solitary Champ who had not put his best foot forward as a favorite, obliged as a medium of a big touch. Solitary Champ poked through a gap after being switched out form the rails and held off the threat from Secret Fury who drifted out under pressure before rolling back.

Master Strategist recorded an encore overcoming a stiff penalty. Master Strategist had to be ridden out by jockey Ladjadj Stephane to contain the late bid by well fancied Sun Device.

Much More virtually brooked no opposition when he was shown the daylight on the wide outside and in no time had gone clear for an easy win. Zooming was a hard ridden second while Major Impression rallied late to be third.

In the opener, Track Wonder showed reversal of form to win. Track Wonder and Raging River fought a stiff battle before the former managed to bank on his reserves and record a narrow win.
