Kadam notches up a priced treble

By: Goldie Boy   August 11 , 2010

Arti Doctor trained Romantic Impact produced a powerful run in the last furlong to lift the 6 furlong Supernova Cup which featured the seven event card at Kolkata on Wednesday foiling the Darius Byramji trained Alacrity`s runaway tactics. Shailesh Shinde partnered the winner. Lesser fancied horses were to the fore on Wednesday with Kishore Kadam booting home three winners through Kuhaylan, Sangoma and All Time High all at nourishing odds.

The drift in odds on Alacrity may have dampened the spirit of his supporters but Alacrity did make an earnest effort from the start but found the Mumbai import Romantic Impact too good in the day and had to surrender to a superior horse.. Romantic Impact drew away in the final stages of the race after being in the front van to register a thumping victory.

The odds on Missoni ridden by Christopher Alford failed to justify the favouritism. Travelling in fourth Missoni came along the rails to overtake the tiring leaders – Thousand Stars, Cromwell and Diyene. But Javed Khan trained Kuhalan who traveled behind the favourite all the way traveled the better when it mattered and won easily in the end. Blue Mountain who came from behind to finish a notable third is the one for the notebook.

Deepak Karki`s topweighted Sangoma stretched away in an end to end attempt to win the Elusive Study Handicap. Andeana who garnered the most support could do no better than follow the winner in vain right from the word ‘go` in the small field of four runners.

Kadam who guided Sangoma to an easy victory had a quick treble and his second winner came through All Time High. Travelling behind the front running Bay Magic, Bella Italiana, Sea Sprite and Angel Wind till the top of the final turn Kadam put All Time High in top gear and the 4 year colt responded well and overtook Bay Magic first and kept Sea Sprit and Bella Italiana at bay at the post. Angel Wind was a decent fourth and bears watching.

Kadam completed the hat trick through Kuhaylan. The 8-1 shot galloped, in fifth, close behind the half-money favourite Missoni and decided to come wide off the field, in stead of the rail-side route taken by Missoni. The Senure son who was the fastest moving horse in the end won easily.

Trainer Vikash Jaiswal`s 10-1 shot, Flying Jaguar found his galloping shoes when ridden by Imran Chisty in the lower division of the Karan`s Choice Handicap. The horse had been running almost every week since the beginning of the season but without a purpose. Entrusted to a strong jockey, the Diffident son revealed his true form to beat the likes of Focus and the 14-10 favourite Arizzanos. Chisty kept Flying Jaguar up with Arizzano, Successful and Focus till the distance-post, before shooting into the winning lead.

Portpatrick, a patched up horse, attracted a good support in the 1,200m Mr Darcy Handicap. However, the Sarfaraz Khan-trainee was never in the hunt in the race which was won by Javed`s Dynamic Move, ridden by B. Mahesh. The horse faced some challenge from the topweighted Bella Italiano till 150m from home.

Sarfaraz, however, kicked of the day with a solid gamble in the 1,000m Pure Valour Handicap which his charge My Fair Lady won decisively. The 5-2 favourite allowed the Darius` ward Bottom Burst to call the shots till a furlong from home and sailed away to a six-length victory.
