Supreme Fairy dominates Golconda Guineas

By: Tippu Sultan   November 24 , 2014

Vittal Deshmukh trained Supreme Fairy overcame the sharpness of trip to win the Gr 2 Deccan Bookmakers Golconda 1000 Guineas, the first classic of the season on Monday. The daughter of Multidimensional had run consistently in the monsoon classics and her turn came this time as Pradeep Chouhan drove out the joint favourite to overhaul the front running Alameda who had shaped to cause a mighty upset.

Supreme Fairy should have gone into the race as an overwhelming favourite considering her experience of running in classic company and the fact she had been a consistent performer though success had eluded her. The presence of Westphalia from Mumbai who had recorded a hat-trick of wins resulted in substantial number of punters plumping for the got abroad filly. In the end, they were left to rue as their decision as Supreme Fairy managed to get the better of long shot Alameda in the closing stages of the race while Westphalia flopped.

Panachecorn set a fast as the field set out for the mile long trip with Feliciana, Alameda and Laurita in close proximity while Supreme Fairy and Westphalia were settled in the rear group. Feliciana showed up prominently at the top of the straight but was soon pressed and passed by Alameda who then went storming clear. Supreme Fairy, who made her move on the wide outside, was driven out by Chouhan and it look a log while before the fancied runner could get past the long shot Alameda who ran above expectations. Mumbai challenger Laurita ran on to finish third while Westphalia was a well beaten fourth unable to pick up speed when it mattered the most.

Faisal Hassan trained Power Plant proved vastly superior to the rest in the 1400 metres Mica Empress Cup (Div I), a Category II races. Jack Sparrow attempted runaway tactics and had the lead deep into the straight. Favourite Power Planet, who raced in the penultimate position, took the final bend very wide and came up with a flourish which took him past the front runner inside the shadow of the post. Golden Arrow made a late dash and succeeded in edging out long time leader Jack Sparrow for the runner up berth. Policy Maker`s runaway tactics came to grief close home as favourite Rahul`s Diamond overhauled all the runners from the last position at the final bend to go storming clear and win with a measure of comfort. Cannon Ten ran on without picking up speed and settled for third slot.

Srinivas Reddy`s Dare To Dream whose last effort was an ambitious bid on the winter million at Bangalore was running after a longish break despite which he looked overwhelmingly superior in the 1200 metres Windscale Plate, a Category II race. Dare To Dream asserted his supremacy in the straight after being held in restraint and the favourite stretched away to win by a widening margin of eight lengths. Three runners were involved in the fight for minor berths. Symbol of Honour was second ahead of Pakat Pakat Pakat and Dear Friend.

Musk Mellon had impressive credentials to win the 1400 metres Corden Rouge Plate (Div I), a Category III race and he did so with minimum of fuss, assuming command in the final furlong and winning with something to spare from late rallying Chocolate Soldier and Sterling Finish. Leo D`Silva trained Fenway Court brought off the biggest upset of the day as she got past the front running Allianz Arena with a furlong left in the race and reached the safety of the post before favourite Light Blue Sky could overhaul her.

Laxman Singh`s Brilliant Twist showed his readiness to strike when he slipped along the rails at the top of the straight and under a hand ride, showed good acceleration to go clear and win the 1100 metres Blue Bird Plate, a race for two year olds, in handsome fashion. Charming Beauty who went wide under pressure stayed on to keep the second position ahead of Bharat Princes who rallied late.

The shortest priced horse of the day, Right dimension did not have things easy in the 1600 metres Original Vel V Balasubramani Memorial Cup, a Category III race. Right Dimension had to be fully ridden out to get the better of front running Red Ramble to justify the short price.
