Srinath drives Murcilago to clinch a thriller

By: Stay Thirsty   November 18 , 2015

Jockey Srinath`s powerful driving finish enabled Murcilago to stave off the late rally of Reanna to win the 1400 metres S M Attaollahi Memorial Trophy, a race for horses rated 60 and above, the feature event of Wednesday`s Mysore races in an absorbing finish. Reanna almost caught up with Murcilago and appeared to have headed the eventual winner but Srinath put all into his final push which enabled the latter to win by the shortest of margins. Arshad Alam found luck going against him as he lost three races in tight finishes during the course of the day.

What went against Reanna was the fact that she was drawn the widest and Arshad Alam could not manoeuvre a forward position and had to settle in the rear group, hoping for all the gaps to materialise along the inside. On the other hand, Murcilago was in about the fourth position after a good jump out from the gates and was ready to launch an assault as soon as straightening for home while Reanna had to weave her way through a difficult passage. The leeway established by Murcilago held him in good stead. Even though Reanna finished with a rattle, Srinath made a big difference to the outcome by his powerful thrust. Campeon ran a game race whiling finishing third while Hallelujah who had won against the run of expectations last time out and as a result, installed the favourite this time, finishing a tame fourth.

Michael Eshwer trained Constantine looked to have the best credentials to win the 1200 metres Wynad Plate, a race for horses rated 80 and above. Jockey Arshad Alam had Constantine dictate the pace from the start and quickened for home much before the others could get into their rhythm. Constantine was hailed a winner long way from home. The forceful finish of Srinath on Class Is Class bridged the margin of victory considerably. Oceanic Storm edged out Miss International for the third slot.

Jockey Trevor Patel guided Momotaro to a facile win in the 1600 metres Great Charisma Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Momotaro had finished third to Good Prospect and on the basis of that effort, was quoted at cramped odds to beat a modest lot of horses. Sky Jasmine who led from the start, had a useful lead going into the final furlong but Momotaro who took time to warm up to the task, covered the leeway swiftly in the end and had the race in his grip inside the final 100 metres. Come On Gingin saved place money.

Feroz Khan trained Reckless had failed as a fancied runner during the last season. Now backed to the exclusion of the rest in the 1200 metres Kakanakote Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45, the favourite did not disappoint. Jockey Afsar Khan had Reckless take over the running within the first furlong and the progeny of Declaration of War was so far ahead of the rest in the run in for home that her victory was assured even before the final 200 metres. Teri Adah ran on to finish second while Crown Emperor who lost considerable ground at the start, improved places in the straight to edge past Lake Emerald to get the third place. Impedimenta enjoyed a healthy lead inside the final furlong and shaped to win but the late flourish of Zoe in the hands of jockey Prabhakaran ensured that the latter nosed out the front runner. Jockey Arshad Alam found himself on the loser who looked a winner every stride of the final furlong barring the final one. Friends Forever who raced in front along with Impedimenta, weakened to finish third.

Arshad Alam was involved in yet another frustratingly close finish which did not go his way. The well-bred Outer Space who hasn`t performed to her pedigree, finally ran the best race of her life as she led all the way in the 1400 metres Manasagangotri Plate (Div I), a race for horses in the lowest class, but close home was pressed strongly by Natural Nine who managed to put her neck in front at the finish. Subhagya was a well beaten third. Favourite For Your Eyes Only got the better of front running Saratoga Spring inside the final furlong and then skipped away for an easy win in the lower division of the race. Ayman was third ahead of Time Matters.
