Dynomia fashions an easy win

By: Goldie Boy   August 20 , 2016

Trainer Vijay Singh`s filly, Dysnomia (S. John-up), a 6/1 chance in the betting, fashioned an easy victory in the 1,100m Calcutta Juvenile Sprint, Wednesday`s feature event. The afternoon also witnessed the trainer`s champion colt, Multitude (S. John) making light of Mr Gorgeous` challenge while winning the 1,400m Arktouros Cup, in an impressive manner. However, the most impressive performance in the seven-event card was recorded by trainer Manvender Singh`s top-weighted colt, Theo (apprentice Hindu Singh). Another star performer also deserves mentioning, for notching up a priced treble, was jockey Ashhad Asbar.

Dysnomia chose to reveal her potential as a frontline sprinter against a formidable set of opposition. Although, the field was only five-horse strong but in was rich in terms of quality. John held back the Rebuttal son, in fourth, till about a furlong from home as her stable-mate, Apercus (C. Alford), made a pillar-to-post effort, with Bharath`s Aquitania, summered in Bangalore, and the last outing`s bloodless winner, Washington, were in the tow. Dysnomia responded with an alarmingly acceleration inside the final furlong to score in a convincing manner over the 2/1 favourite, Aquitania who was being hailed as a winner.

Vijay`s Classy colt, Multitude, cut the opposition to size, once again. At more favourable terms, the Multidimensional son was a little pressed to beat Mr Gorgeous (C. Alford), on last occasion. The 9/10 favourite, made no bone about his superior Class this time as John adopted start-to-finish tactics to retire as a facile winner, and also to frustrate an almost equally fancied Mr Gorgeous, in the 1,400m Arktouros Cup.

Theo (Hindu), also a 6/1 chance, inspite of a convincing victory in his previous outing, once again, chose to give the top-weighted runner a waiting race in the 1,400m Select Handicap. Allowing Aaron`s, Dussehra, Zephire, and the two fancied runners, Say You Say Me (Arshad Alam) and Ballister (Alford) to call the shots till about 200m from home, Theo changed the gear and raced away to a near seven-length victory. Interestingly, the timing clocked by the winner, over the slated trip, was close to 0.8 secs better that that of recorded by Multitude.

Ashhad`s Juggernaut started rolling from the curtain raiser, the 1,600m Best Of The Blues Handicap. Best when he guided a heavily wagered Raunak Banerji`s runner, Auberon, to an easy victory. However, no point of discussing the race in which most of the potential performers, in a field of eight, hardly appeared to be interested in the proceedings.

Trainer James McKewon`s 5/1 chance. Legendofthephoenix, provided Ashhad to display his riding skills in the 1,800m Crown Rule Handicap. Held back his charge right behind the fancied pair of Aculeus (B. Nikhil) and Sunset Sail (Keen Steyn) till about a furlong form home and the going was easy for the five-year-old mare from that point of journey.

Ashhad was back at the winners` enclosure in the concluding race, the 1,200m Idaho Handicap, when his 11/2 chance, Kanya Kalyan, had the measure of a quietly fancied Vikash Jaiswal`s runner, Dreamz Unlimited (Arshad Alam). In fact, Dreamz Unlimited was a good thing lost, thanks to Arshad who failed to keep his charge close to rails. Dreamz Unlimited was witnessed galloping 8-10 horse wide in the mid-division but covered plenty of ground in the final furlong of the race.

Trainer Harvider Bath`s Illidan (Nirmal Jodha) was another good thing that lost in the 1,800m Accuser Handicap; which the jockey had to win in the stewards` room. Illidan was, not only taken wide by the longtime leader, Sushi (Alford), who also rolled on to Illidan during the final 100m of the race. Inspite of all this, a mere nose separated the two, and thus the reversal of placings.
