Exclusive Wind prevails in a thriller

By: Tippu Sultan   September 17 , 2017

Anupam Sharma trained Exclusive Wind recorded a thrilling win in the 1600 metres Chief Minister`s Cup, a terms race for three-year-olds and over, the feature event of Sunday`s Hyderabad races. Mr Baahubali led all the way and jockey Hannam very nearly succeeded in pulling a fast one on the other competitors but lost the plot in the shadow of the post in a three-horse finish.

Mr Baahubali had never performed over longer trips, his exploits restricted to sprints. Mr Baahubali runs freely in front and his initial speed which helps him to enjoy an uncontested lead could be his blessing when he runs over longer trips if it is harnessed well. Hannam decided to do exactly this as he tactically had the horse run freely in front, establishing a lead of a distance over Vijay Viraaj, Exclusive Wind and Time For Fun who were huddled together. Mr Baahubali came into the straight about six lengths clear of the rest and though he was weakening perceptibly in the final furlong, Hannam kept him going till the shadow of the post. Mr Baahubali faltered in the waning yards of the race and the strongly ridden Exclusive Wind covered the leeway and measured the front-runner in nick of time to land the spoils. Vijay Viraaj was a close third.

Hannam, however, was not to be denied in the 1200 metres Totaram`s Cup, a race for horses rated 58 to 78, the other highlight of the day where his exemplary riding on Amorous Knight helped the game son of Stern Opinion to pull it off against his nemesis Chase Your Dreams and the late-rallying Without Make Up. Amorous White is a free-running horse in front and quite often he had gone too fast for his own good. Hannam had him nicely settled behind Chase Your Dreams who had beaten him in the past and allowed the latter the chance to make the first run on him. Kuldeep Singh had Chase Your Dreams lead with Amorous White in close proximity. The same situation prevailed right till the final furlong when Amorous White began to launch his onslaught. After an exciting duel, Hannam could push Amorous White ahead and the progeny of Stern Opinion won with a measure of comfort. Without Make Up showed intent when she rallied from way off the pace to snatch the runner-up berth from the favourite and announce her readiness to strike next time out. Amorous White who thus recorded his sixth win of the career for trainer Anant Vatsalya is surely running with greater maturity and Hannam has helped a great deal in settling the horse to good effect.

Anant Vatsalya led in a double through last start winner Golden Joy who had it easy in the 1200 metres Hovercraft Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated up to 30. Backed to the exclusion of the rest, Golden Joy collared the front-running In Command in the final furlong and sped clear. Divine Heights, with a late charge, got the better of In Command close home to get the runner-up berth. Akshay Kumar who was astride Golden Joy also guided lesser fancied Sunday Carnival to victory in the lower division of the race. Favourite Sweet Story was sluggish at the start and this possibly hurt the chances of the favourite. Time Is Luck led for most part of the trip before Akshay Kumar pushed Sunday Carnival to get the better of the long-time leader. Sunday Carnival shot ahead and had enough lead to win from Sweet Story who went wide under pressure but still managed to neck out Cashel to get the second position.

Satheesh trained Surprise Party had it easy in the 1400 metres Dynamic Dancer Cup, a race for horses rated 26 to 46. Jockey Nakhat Singh had Surprise Party lead from the start and the fancied runner was not troubled by any of the opponents enroute to a facile win. Scooby Dooby Do got the second position ahead of Ikigai who left herself too much leeway to cover in the straight.

Anupam Sharma trained Seven Eleven readily justified the favoritism in the 1400 metres Swamy Ramananda Thirta Plate (Div I), a race for three-year-olds. Seven Eleven took command of the race on straightening for home and sped away for an easy win over Be Sure who found the eventual winner too strong for comfort. Turf Legend was third. The lower division also went the way of the favourite in similar fashion as the Vittal Deshmukh trainee Hope Is Eternal asserted her supremacy with an identical effort. Hope Is Eternal was hailed a winner well before the final furlong with Exclusive Striker who gave a chase in hopeless pursuit. The Man Is Black was faraway third.
