Favourites oblige in majoity of races

By: Sridhama   July 1 , 2009

Professionals Dinesh Pujar and Ranjeet saddled two winners on a day when four favourites obliged in a card of seven events at Mysore .

Vertex who was backed to the exclusion of the others obliged in the feature event of the races, the Varahi Cup.

Vertex was taking on a modest set and virtually brooked no opposition and even the six kilo penalty for her last start win had no impact and she won by a widening margin of over 3 and ¾ of a length. The Young Senor – Alzira 3 year old filly seems to have developed a bad habit of drifting out once into the straight and this may have a bearing on performane in future unless remedial mesures are taken.

The erstwhile Deccan Derby winner Brown Sugar who has been running consistently this season won in the hands of apprentice Md.Shoaib. Brown Sugar who was unfortunate to have lost to Red Key Point last time out was rightly lodged the favourite and he did not disappoint. Kept in handy third all through, he had the measure of Gold Grid whose laboured progress could only fetch him second place. Magical Spirit who seems to have reached her handicap mark though finished on well could only take the third spot.

The Gain continued from where he had left off last time out to score an encore. Like on the last occasion, he was kept in handy second and urged to take the front from the 500 meter marker and rest was a mere formality with Always For You struggling to make a match and failing. Artistic Way finished on to be an useful third.

A quiet touch was brought off on I Wanna Fly in the Red Chieftan Plate. Unlike on the previous occasion, the San Fransico 6 year old mare broke level from the gates and was well settled in fifth when jockey Chandrashekar reminded her of her job and she forged ahead to win as she liked. Rain God who was kept off the pace finished on late to be a good second.

Sunlaa finally obliged at nourishing odds. It was Theodora who was lodged the favourite despite apprentice Chethana on board. In the event Theodora and Run For Fame cut each others throat from the word ‘go` only to lose steam when it mattered the most. Sunlaa who was in fifth moved up well even as Roto Rooa was also seen charging home. But Roto Rooa who was hanging all through failed to just about contain Sunlaa. If Roto Rooa had run straight the result could have been different. The favourite Theordora finished third.

With better assistance in the saddle Living Free scored an easy win in the Kokkare Belluru Plate. Unlike the favourite Mauritius Star who was gracing the rear for most part of the journey, Living Free was handily positioned in second and easily took over in the straight to score. Ranveer who was kept behind came with purpose to occupy the runner up berth. Winning Attitude who attempted an end to end mission ran out of gas when needed and could only finish third. Mauritius Star was a tame fourth.

Rich Rogue had it easy in the opener and made it pillar to post. Only Time Speed followed him home closely with others being simply outclassed.
