Desperado wins Summer Million with authority

  August 2 , 2018

Neil Darashah trained Desperado won the Gr 3 Bangalore Summer Million, a terms race for three-year-olds, the feature event of Thursday`s races in emphatic fashion. The pre-race favourite Sea Quest played up while being saddled and was withdrawn from the fray. Desperado who had accounted for Corfe Castle, thus was left with no worthwhile opposition and the progeny of Win Legend had things running his way.

Sacred Roman who was making his debut did the job of pace-setting in the early part of the race before Arshad Alam decided to take charge on Desperado. Desperado smoothly cruised into the lead and skipped away from the rest in the straight. Shesmyscript ran on from behind to take the second place ahead of Superb Success. The withdrawal of Sea Quest robbed the race of the interest as the progeny of Uncle Mo had made a sensational debut and his performance here would have given a clue to the extent of domination that he could have had on classics.

The Prithviraj trained Regal Music obliged at nourishing odds in the 1200 metres Karnataka Sub-Area Cup, a race for horses rated 60 and above. Dhannu Singh Deora took Regal Music on a start to finish mission and though the lesser fancied runner drifted out alarmingly towards the closing stages of the race, he had enough cushion to reach the safety of the winning post. Favourite Mansuetude was hard-pressed to bridge the gap but found the front-runner unrelenting. Fire Glow managed to nose out Hot N Fire to grab the third position. The last named could have been a force to reckon with but the filly lapsed back to her old habit of being slow from the gates which affected her chances.

Neil Darashah trained New Moon recorded an encore with ease in the 1400 metres Jayant Shah Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 45 to 65. Navelrock led deep into the straight but New Moon who was in about the fifth position at the final bend gained ground along the rails and shot ahead by the final furlong. New Moon kicked clear to win the race easily from Torsoro and I`ve Got Clout while Navelrock tired out to finish fourth.

Arjun Mangalorkar trained Wonder Blaze won the 1200 metres Track Lightning Trophy, a race for maiden three-year-olds by a widening margin. After Yerwazan led the field into the final furlong thwarting the bid of favourite Air Command, Wonder Blaze picked up steam on the wide outside and sped away to win by a margin of over five lengths. Winning Force showed some spark while moving with a flourish from way off the pace to take the second position ahead of Yerwazan. Air Command once again disappointed with another dismal performance.

Noah`s Ark had a strong form to have a bold show in the 1400 metres Basque Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 30 to 50. The Neil Devaney trained Noah`s Ark did not disappoint, taking control of the proceedings approaching the final furlong and then leaving the rest stranded to win in emphatic fashion. Tanoura necked out Lycurgus to get the runner-up berth. Arjun Mangalorkar trained Concept Win recorded an encore in the lower division of the race Call Me Maybe and Free Port. Favourite Hanko made no show.

Narayan Gowda trained Princess Holly was a long-priced winner of the day`s opener, the 1200 metres Epsom Plate, a race for horses rated 15 to 25. Princess Holly led from the start and had a big break over the rest. The laterally of favourite Venus Bay was bound to go in vain. Ted With Me was third.
