Suraj Narredu wins Rising Stars Championship

Magic ! No word can describe better the International Jockeys` Weekend this year. If the first day was dominated fairly and squarely by the French riders who bagged seven out of the eight races, the second day was more equitable.

Indian rider Suraj Satish Narredu, with 35 points, was champion in the Rising Stars Championship thanks to his double (Bourne Supreme and Il Magnifico). French rider Maxime Guyon finished second with 31 points.

Despite Ms. P.Flierman`s win on board of Multi Dimention in the Fegentri race, it is German rider N.Gratz who was crowned champion with a total of 134 pts.

In the race reserved for the Top Stars, Stéphane Pasquier, with 43 points, landed the title in front of John Patrick Murtagh and Olivier Peslier, finished ex-aequo with 25 points.

However, the Champ de Mars vibrated when Horse Of The Year The Cardinal, partnered with Reehaze Hoolash, won in a scintillating finish as usual.

Eight runners were carded in the opener, reserved for the Rising Stars, of the second day of the International Jockeys` Weekend. Leatherman (Donavan Mansour) and National Bureau (R.Hoolash) fought it for the lead while Il Magnifico (Suraj Narredu) was well placed in third spot with favourite Inside Out (Rye Joorawon) in his heels.

Entering the homestraight, Il Magnifico, powerfully driven by the Indian rider, withstood and won magnificently in front of Inside Out. Third place went to Best Orffer ( Karis Teetan) and Casey`s Bluff with Guyon on board completed the quartet.

Irish Patriot (Shane Dye) kicked on early at the 500m-mark and went on bravely to win the first race reserved for the Top Stars. National Thatch (Murtagh) filled in second spot in front of Young Announcer (Dettori). Ballito Boy (Peslier) completed the quartet.

The third event, reserved for the Lady-riders and which was the last leg of the FEGENTRI, was landed by Multi Dimention who had Dutch rider Paula Wolters-Flierman on board. Lone Star Park (Catherine Burri) who had a decent run filled in second sot in front of Bobby Shoes (Cathrine Engebretsen). Winter`s Edge (Clare MacMahon) completed the quartet. Consequently, German rider Narine Gratz tops the table of the Fegentri Championship and is the winner this season.

Consistent Alitalia, ridden by Ahmed Ajtebi, scored in the 4th race. He was the best by far in this race over 1400m. Pablo (John Patrick Murtagh) finished second in front of Dock On Time (Hatt). Camden`s Choice (Olivier Peslier) completed the quartet.

Bel Esprit (Barzalona) was slow out of the gates. Odysseus (Miss Hayley Turner) settled first in front and Foxtrot Oscar (Guyon) settled well in a compact field. As Odysseus and Mendelssohn (R.Joorawon) fought it at the entrance of the homestraight, Foxtrot Oscar burst out on the outside to score.

In the main race of the day, Le Touessrok Cup, Galant Gagnant, with John Patrick Murtagh on board, opened up his account in style, setting a new record of the 1850m in 1.53.19s. Naughty Prince (Glen Hatt) and Candy Bar (Tom Queally) jumped out well and settled in front and controlled the race. Galant Gagnant, settled in fifth place, and once he broke into the homestraight, he went to land it marvellously. So Raven (Dye) finished second while Pick Six (Ahmed Ajtebi) finished third. Candy Bar (Tom Queally) completed the quartet.

Champion Horse 2009, The Cardinal, finished his season on a good note when he landed the last leg reserved for the Rising Stars. The horse of Fok Stable tasted his 7th win in 12 outings. As usual, he produced his devastating pace in the home straight to win, partnered with champion apprentice, Reehaze Hoolash.

The last race was landed by Olivier Peslier on Strike Again.
