The recently set up New Approach Stud Farm which is set up Darley Scholar Ajay Anne and former Chief Stipendiary Steward of Royal Western India Turf Club Sujat Hussain have had reason to be happy with their purchase of some got abroad mares two years ago.
Among the five yearlings for sale in India, three have already found buyers and two are left to be sold. Among the last year`s purchase of mares which was done privately was Masrora and she is the dam of Set The Trend who won the Shergar Cup Mile Handicap in impressive fashion at Ascot on Saturday. Earlier, Set The Trend had lost narrowly on the Epsom Derby day and then went on to win the Jockey Championship.
The stud farm still has his half brother by Halling to Set The Trend in the New Approach Stud Farm in Kiccha (near Rudrapur)
Ajay Anne, who works for Darley, has his own bloodstock company based in Dubai. The first stallion he sold to India was none other than Noverre whose progeny have been on fire in Europe this year through Music Show and Summit Charge. Sultan Singh who owns the Sohna Stud Farm, acknowledged the role played by Ajay Anne in the purchase of Noverre which has become hot property in India.
Indian race horse breeders have been buying pregnant mares in a big way from Goff`s all these years. The produce out of these mares have made a big splash on racing in India so much so that the demand for these horses has gone up manifold. With restrictions on import from other European countries having been eased, there will be bigger participation of buyers though at this point of time, the crisis faces by Bangalore Turf Club may act as a dampener.
