Highly Acclaimed scrapes home in the feature

By: Tippu Sultan   November 19 , 2018

Vittal Deshmukh trained Highly Acclaimed who had given a disastrous performance in his last outing in the monsoon season, won the 1400 metres Bhagyanagar Cup, a race for horses rated 58 to 78, the feature event of Monday`s Hyderabad races. Newly licensed apprentice jockey Surya Prakash had the lesser fancied runner race freely in front and Highly Acclaimed held off the late challenge of Be Sure.

Be Sure who had won in her last outing, had the credentials to enjoy favouritism. Durango was another horse to get good support in the betting ring. But it was the stablemate of Durango who was seen in earnest action as the speedy customer Highly Acclaimed hit the front from the word `go` and established a winning lead by the final furlong. Be Sure responded well to the urgings and came home with a rush only to find the front-runner escape to victory. Durango who was unsettled at the time of the start, ran on from behind to take the third position.

Laxman Singh trained Mozambique had the best credentials to win the 1400 metres Twin Cities Cup, a race for horses rated 42 to 62 but the odds drift close to race time was a surprise. Jockey Srinath restrained the free-striding horse and settled the filly in about the fourth position. This was the undoing of the favourite as she had always built up a useful leading due to her cruising speed. This advantage was nullified as she was overhauled by a host of horses in the straight. Clarissa who showed out early in the straight, easily overhauled Mozambique who had surged ahead in the stretch and went away for an easy win in the hands of jockey Akshay Kumar. Somerset ran on to take the second position ahead of Humaaghar. Mozambique finished in the ruck.

Srinivas Reddy trained Classic Remark easily accounted for the opposition in the 1100 metres Elusive Hero Plate, a race for horses rated 42 to 62. The speedy customer hit the front from the beginning and expanded the lead to eventually check-in by a margin of six lengths. The opposition was totally flat-footed by the speed shown by the favourite. In the fight for minor placings, Classic Guy got the second position ahead of Honest Hunter.

Prashant Dhebe drove out favourite Amazing Script to a narrow win over last start winner Happy Together in the 1200 metres Vegavathi Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 26 to 46. Happy Together led from the start and had a useful lead going into the final furlong. However, Amazing Script, under a strong ride, responded to the urgings and managed to edge past the front-runner in the closing strides of the race. Farmville who was toiling at the wrong end of the field finished strongly to come within striking distance of the winner. The lower division of the race produced a thriller, with the camera unable to separate Your Grace and Long Range who had gone past the post locked together, resulting in a dead heat. Long Range had a good lead in the final furlong, but Your Grace finished powerfully in the hands of Nakhat Singh and covered up the leeway. The two contestants hit the post together. Symbolic Star was third. The favourite Tokyo Jam who had the services of jockey Srinath flopped.

The 1400 metres Bhongir Plate, a race for horses in the lowest category, had an open look about it. Close to race time Prasad Raju trained Blazing Speed ended up getting strong support to close as the favourite. Blazing Speed, however, was never in the hunt. Vallee Ikon who had some racing form came up with a flourishing effort in the final furlong and clinched the issue from Southern Meteor and Diesis Dream.
