Long Range overshadows stablemate in feature

By: Tippu Sultan   December 19 , 2018

Hilton Sequeira`s wrong `un Long Range, albeit belonging to the same owner, upset in the 1100 metres Sikander-E-Azam Cup, a race for horses rated 42 to 62, the feature event of Wednesday`s Hyderabad races. Stablemate Dunkirk who was strongly backed could not catch up with Long Range who had shot into a decisive lead in the final furlong. Those who put faith in Laxman Singh`s favourites, continued to suffer as favourite Rahil was never in the hunt like many of his stablemates during the season.

Rahil had the majority supporting her to record an encore. There was spirited betting on Dunkirk to have a strong say at the finish. Long Range who had dead-heated last time out for the first place, was available at long odds as the stablemate which had the services of Akshay Kumar enjoyed all the support. Amazing Script set a fast pace with Long Range staying in proximity while Dunkirk was some lengths adrift while Rahil was a lost cause from the beginning, unable to keep pace and staying many lengths behind the fancied runners. Inside the final furlong, Long Range measured the front-runner and stormed clear. Dunkirk went in the chase but found the front-runner having enough legs to reach the safety of the winning post. Shiloh ran on to take the third position.

There was inspired betting on Donald Netto trained Warrior Supreme to win the 1200 metres Falaknuma Cup, a race for horses rated 42 to 62. Sweetie Pie led from the start and shaped to win but in the final strides of the race, Warrior Supreme put his head in front and prevailed by a neck over the late-charging Celtic Queen. Sweetie Pie was a close third ahead of Sea Castle. Sweetie Pie reportedly came back lame.

Satyanarayana trained Desert Moon proved a revelation when he swamped the field in the 1400 metres Moment of Glory Plate, a race for horses rated 26 to 46. Desert Moon came into strong contention with a furlong left in the race and skipped clear to win by a widening margin of five lengths over Reach The Heights who led till overhauled by the favourite. Platinum Classz was third.

Hilton Sequeira trained Trump Girl justified the spirited support in the betting ring for her success in the 1200 metres RWITC Plate, a race for horses rated 26 to 46. Trump Girl chased Crimson Fire who attempted runaway tactics and caught up with the front-runner with a furlong left in the race and bolted away to win by an impressive margin of over five lengths. Crimson Fire retained the second position ahead of Yogastha.

Leo D`Silva trained Midnight Dream produced a scintillating burst of speed in the final furlong to nail the front-running Versailles in the waning yards of the race in the 1200 metres Bakranangal Plate, a race for maiden two-year-olds. Versailles who had the benefit of a race run led in earnest and shaped to win as favourite Exclusive Blue was galloping in snatches. However, the complexion of the race changed when Midnight Dream began to cover the leeway with menacing strides and managed to neck out the front-runner in the final moments of the race.

Ravinder Singh trained Arohi recorded a dramatic win in the 1200 metres Ardent Knight Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated up to 30. Arohi was sluggish at the start and was nowhere in sight when Moka shot ahead with a furlong left in the race and established a big lead. However, the finishing burst of Arohi enabled the long shot to get the better of Moka in the closing strides of the race. Southern Meteor necked out strong favourite Delphina to save place money. Satyanarayana trained Vega Cassandra attracted the big volume of betting that in a trice the price in the betting ring crashed. However, Vega Cassandra did not win the way the money came on her success. Jockey Naresh had to drive her out with liberal use of the whip to get the better of Loch Stella to land the spoils. Royal Style was third.
