Donald Netto trained Agni fought off a resolute battle to edge out Tetra Rama to win the Gr 3 K Mahipathi Rao Memorial Golconda Juvenile Million, a terms race for three-year-olds, the feature event of Monday`s Hyderabad races held at Malakpet. Agni had to win the battle again in the Stewards room as Akshay Kumar sought to reverse the verdict in the Stewards room by lodging objection against Zervan who rode the winner for interference.
Laxman Singh trained Tetra Rama was backed to the exclusion of the rest though, on merit, the got-abroad did not enjoy clear cut superiority over the rest and the colt did not have the benefit of a race run as well during the season. Jockey Akshay Kumar took Tetra Rama on a start to finish mission with Agni in the chase. Inside the final furlong, Agni overtook the front-runner and then rolled on to the rails after being clear of the favourite. Tetra Ram came up with renewed vigour after being pulled outside and closed with a rush only to miss the berth narrowly. Tetra Rama came up with a second wind only because Agni was tiring out in the end. The interference made no difference to the chances of the favourite. The objection did not find favour with the Stewards and the same was overruled. Mon General finished third while Sitara ran below expectations.
Second favourite British Empress from the stables of Hilton Sequeira was driven out for an easy win by jockey Akshay Kumar in the 1600 metres Noble Quest Plate, a race for maiden three-year-olds. The strong favourite Francis Beacon who led the field into the straight surrendered the moment he came under pressure in the stretch from British Empress who stormed ahead to establish a sizeable lead going into the final furlong. British Empress won by a widening margin of four lengths over late-rallying Artistry who got the better of Monte Rei to get the runner-up berth. Francis Bacon was a disappointing fourth. British Empress reportedly bled through her right nostril after the race.
Laxman Singh trained Platts Tour completed an encore with an easy win in the 1400 metres Fateh Maiden Club Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Backed to the exclusion of the rest, Platts Tour was settled behind the front-running Yours Forever who held the lead deep into the stretch. However, the moment jockey Ashhad Asbar asked for an effort from the favourite, the complexion of the race changed with the progeny of Tazahum responding well and overhauling the front-runner without much fuss to win by a comfortable margin of over three lengths. Yours Forever held on to the second position ahead of Ashwa Yashobali who kept Sporting Smile who was rallying well at bay to save place money.
Srinivas Reddy trained Delphina swamped the opposition in the 1200 metres Kalamaris Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Delphina had signed off the winter season with an impressive victory and recorded the second successive win with a measure of comfort after the seasonal break after 175 days. After Marvel Princess brought the field into the homestretch, Trevor Patel got busy on the favourite who after a brief duel with the front-runner stormed ahead to eventually win by a margin of over lengths. Marvel Princess stayed on to take the second position ahead of the late rallying Vega Cassandra. Southern State who was in the hunt till the final two furlongs gradually faded out of the reckoning and finished off the frame. Apprentice jockey Surya Prakash had a fall as the saddle on Evon Von Brando, one of the fancied runners had apparently slipped. Lesser fancied Honest Hunter from the stables of Waseem Ahmed won the Division II of the Kalamaris Plate at the expense of late finishing Sublime who was in receipt of inspired betting. Honest Hunter led from the start and had a healthy lead going into the final furlong. Max and Tokyo Jam were under pressure to catch up with the front-runner. Sublime who was several lengths behinds these horses picked up steam close home and produced a big effort but fell short in the end. Tokyo Jam managed to snatch the third position from Max.
Waseem Ahmed trained Your Grace rallied well to nail favourite Magic Street on the post to win the Division III of the Kalamaris Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Satyanarayana trained Magic Street who was backed to the exclusion of the rest took over the running inside the final two furlongs and stormed ahead. However, he began to veer out of a straight course and looked visibly tiring and needed the post desperately even as apprentice jockey Afroz Khan was at sea to handle the situation. Your Grace who picked up momentum pounced on the front-runner and got the nod in the last stride of the race. Tiger of the Sea rallied well to take the third position. Srinivas Reddy trained Man Apart just about lasted out to win the Division IV of the Kalamaris Plate from late-rallying Holy Healer. The latter had the credentials but was not so enthusiastically supported because of five-kg claimer in J S Jodha being in the saddle. Trevor Patel took Man Apart to the front from the word `go` and the favourite had an uncontested lead and it looked as though he would win with ease as Trevor had not moved a muscle. However, Holy Healer who was in the second last position flashed on to the scene in the final furlong but failed to overhaul the front-runner by a whisker. Trevor would have been in trouble if he had lost the race because he looked overconfident and did not get aggressive until he was alerted to the danger. Handsome Duo ran on to finish third while Amazing Script and Guiding Force who were in the betting put up timid performances.
Sk Kassam trained Silver Dollar who had recorded back to back wins three-years ago finally found the winning mark after a gap of 1037 days by obliging a good touch in the 1400 metres Best of Bold Plate, a race for horses rated up to 25. Silver Dollar was backed down from a high quote close to race time. Silver Dollar came into strong contention in the stretch and despite veering out of a straight course, managed to win by a widening margin of six lengths to provide jockey B R Kumar with a double for the day. Cowboys` Delight headed Delmonico to snatch the second place while favourite Royal Dancer could only finish fourth.
