Show Me Your Walk canters home in the feature

By: Tippu Sultan   January 30 , 2023

Hilton Sequeira trained Show Me Your Walk who had finished a close fourth in her previous outing over a mile came good over a furlong less in the 1400 metres Fire Arch Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65, the feature event of Monday`s Hyderabad races. Apprentice jockey Ajay Kumar allowed Show Me Your Walk to bolt to the front from the word `go` and the front-runner enjoyed an uncontested lead and checked in well clear of the late rallying Painted Apache and Southern Act.

Show Me Your Walk who is a known front-runner was backed strongly ahead of Painted Apache and the others. Painted Apache had shown zest in his last outing but was asked to tackle a furlong less which doesn`t suit his style of running as he is generally ridden off the pace and asked to cover the leeway from way behind. Such tactics are fraught with risk because if the pace in front is comfortable, the front runner will have reserves to spurt and as such, anyone coming from behind will be placed at a disadvantage. So, it proved as Show Me Your Walk led by several lengths and was travelling well into the straight. The five-year-old mare did not slacken and was hailed a winner all the way in the straight. Painted Apache rallied along the rails and covered a lot of ground which was good enough to nose out Southern Act and Indian King to get the runner-up berth.

Leo D`Silva trained Reigning Beauty was the piping hot favourite to win the 1100 metres Wolf 777 Plate (Div I), a race for maiden three-year-olds. The favourite duly obliged in the hands of jockey Sandesh but had to be driven out aggressively to get the better of Bold Beauty who put up a dogged resistance but lost steam in the shadow of the post. Colt Piston was third. Srinivas Reddy trained Fara and Anant Vatsalya schooled Warwick were both backed with enthusiasm in the lower division of the race, with the former going to the post as a firm favourite. Ajeet Kumar had Warwick lead from the start. The front-runner lead deep into the straight before Fara responded to the urgings of jockey Ashhad Asbar and managed to edge out the front-runner in the shadow of the post. Queen Empress was third a few lengths adrift. Commanding Knight veered out violently midway in the straight and jumped over the hedges of the winter track, causing jockey Santosh Rao to have a bad fall.

Pinatubo and Classical Music enjoyed support in equal measure to win the 1200 metres Genlemans Deal Plate (Div I), a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Classic Music held sway till the final 100 metres. Pinatubo had to be goaded with all the might that Sai Kumar had at his command to quicken and sail past the front-runner which he did so close to home. Saint Emilion was a close third. The lower division was at the mercy of Srinivas Reddy trained Black Eagle who had run twice at Bangalore but had a setback and had a tie-break operation performed on him. Sandesh had an arm-chair ride on the shortest-priced horse of the week as Black Eagle led from the start and eventually expanded the lead to a widening margin of seven lengths at the post. Plethora edged out Divine Destiny to get the second spot.

Anant Vatsalya trained Stoic Hero and Shashikanth trained Vision of Rose were the market fancies to win the 1100 metres Astana Plate (Div II). While the trust in Vision of Rose was misplaced because the five-year-old mare ran poorly in the race, the confidence in Stoic Hero came off thanks to Ajeeth Kumar who drove out the four-year-old gelding with all the resources at his command to measure the front-running Happy Go Lucky who was not inclined to surrender easily. Stoic Hero managed to head the front-runner in the closing stride of the race. The upper division of the race saw Satheesh trained High Reward managing to prevail close to home at the expense of the well-fancied Picture Me. The first four runners finished in a cluster. Apprentice jockey Md Ekram Alam had his passage blocked by the front-running Golden Forza when he made an attempt to push through the rails and he had to check his horse and bring him on the outside to get a clear run. This perhaps may have helped High Reward as he finished with a big effort to edge past Picture Me who after hitting the front, was in despair for the post. Indradhanush and Mr Perfect, Golden Forza occupied the positions behind in close order.

Long shot Good Tidings from the stables of Faisal Hassan rallied well along the rails to storm into the lead down the final furlong and won the 1400 metres Asmangadh Fort Plate, a race for horses rated up to 25. Favourite Life Is Good could not live up to expectations and had to settle for second place ahead of Silver Lining.

Prasad Raju trained horses generally get blasted in the betting ring when the stable is very confident which is also reflected in the volume of money attracted. Blasted In Girl who was maiden in 11 starts, finally broke the ice with a good rally in the final furlong to win with a measure of comfort. Gusty Note had established a runaway lead till the final furlong but failed to produce anything extra thereafter. Blast In Class covered the leeway with a powerful effort and managed to stave off the late bid of Sorry Darling to land the spoils. Sweet Melody was third ahead of Gusty Note who completely ran out of gas after running a scalded cat in front from the jump-out.
