Opening day’s racing favours punters
21-Jul-2022: After the mayhem suffered by punters right through the Bangalore Summer Season, the opening day’s races of the Hyderabad Monsoon Racing Season offered a ray of hope, with fancied runners ruling the roost in the majority of races that were gone through on Thursday. Racing went on expected lines as form held true. Donald Netto trained Lagos justified the favouritism staving off the strong challenge of late rallying New Look in the day’s feature event.

Lamha, lone upset on a day dominated by favourites
25-Jul-2022: Hilton Sequeira trained Lamha had the first run on her opponents and held on gamely in a close finish to clinch the 1600 metres Raja Mahboob Karan Memorial Cup, a race for horses rated 40 to 65, the feature event of the second day’s Hyderabad Monsoon Races held on Monday. Barring Lamha who was a long shot, the other races of the day saw fancied runners dominating the finish.

Ayr records an encore with ease in feature

Lagarde completes formalities in Nizam’s Cup
22-Aug-2022: Sulaiman Attaollahi trained Lagarde completed the formality of beating stablemate Towering Presence in the Gr 2 Nizam’s Gold Cup, a terms race for four-year-olds and over, the feature event of races held at Malakpet on Monday. There were just three runners in the fray and two of them of vastly inferior credentials with Towering Presence who finished second having a rating of 40 as against 118 of Lagarde.

Corfe Castle bounces back with an impressive win
28-Aug-2022: Leo D’Silva trained seven-year-old Corfe Castle had no problem in disposing of the challengers en route to an easy win in the 1400 metres Governor’s Cup, a terms race for four-year-olds and over, the feature event of the races held at Malakpet on Sunday. Corfe Castle who was winning a race after more than 200 days, thus recorded his 11th win from 30 outings. Jockey Akshay Kumar was astride the winner.

Shabelle pips Artemis Ignacia at the post
29-Aug-2022: After four disappointing efforts, Sulaiman Attaollahi trained Shabelle came into her own when eking out a narrow win over Artemis Ignacia in the concluding stride of the Gr 3 Y Shanker Rao Memorial Deccan Fillies Championship Stakes, the first classic of the season, at Malakpet on Monday. Shabelle who was under pressure to keep pace at the final bend, was whipped to get the desired response by jockey Trevor Patel and the produce of Kunigal Stud Farm, with a late dash, managed to win the first classic for her sire Sanus Per Aquam in thrilling fashion.

Salento edges out Ashoka in Race 2 Win Colts Classic
04-Sep-2022: Arjun Mangalorkar trained Salento produced a stunning gallop in the final furlong from way off the pace to collar Ashoka in the dying moments of the race to win the Gr 3 Race2Win.com Deccan Colts Championship Stakes, the second classic of the season at Malakpet on Sunday. It was a hat-trick of success for trainer Arjun Mangalorkar in this event while for jockey Anthony Raj, the win came on the back of the success on Kensington in the last year’s edition of this race.

Fire Power wins Totaram’s Cup in a thriller
05-Sep-2022: Vittal Deshmukh trained Fire Power stayed on grimly in front and held on to win by the proverbial whisker over Saffron Art in the 1800 metres Totaram’s Cup, a race for horses rated 60 to 85, the feature event of Monday’s Hyderabad races. Theon gets President of India Cup on the platter

Over a period of time, the surfeit of terms races for older horses and the fact that very few were left behind to run in these races resulted in the depletion of the quality. The race has since been downgraded from Group I status to Group 2.

The progeny of Usha Stud Farm resident stallion Speaking of Which, Salento had given an indication of his immense talent with a late burst which had fetched him the Colts Championship Stakes earlier in the season. The extended trip saw him blooming to his full potential.
