28-Jul-2024: After much uncertainty due to incessant rains, racing proceeded on Sunday as the weather cleared just enough for the event. Despite the challenging conditions, professionals were keen to race, and the event went off without a hitch. Nazak Chenoy enjoyed a successful day with a double win, including a victory by Ataash, who finally found his stride. Guided by the lesser-known Vishal Bunde, Ataash clinched the 1200 meters J E Hughes Trophy, a race for horses rated 60 to 86, the feature event of the day.

Evaldo triumphs in Eve Champion Trophy
06-Aug-2024: Evaldo, trained by Prasanna Kumar, has had moments of brilliance, though he’s equally known for inconsistency. However, on Tuesday, in the Gr 3 Winfaire 247 Eve Champion Trophy—a prestigious race for four-year-olds and over—Evaldo was at his scintillating best. Held at Pune, the race had originally been slated for Sunday but was postponed due to inclement weather. Despite his habitual slow start, Evaldo stayed in touch with the field, thanks to the slow early pace, conserving his energy for a powerful finish.

Siege Courageous breaks Royal Mysore’s winning streak
10-Aug-2024: In a stunning turn of events, Prasanna Kumar, the dominator of feature races this season, added yet another prestigious victory to his impressive portfolio. His charge, Siege Courageous, gallantly held off stablemate Royal Mysore to claim the Gr 3 Yohan Z Poonawalla Turf Club Cup—a highly anticipated terms race for four-year-olds and over—at Saturday’s Pune races. Royal Mysore, who was on the brink of a remarkable sixth straight win, left his supporters disheartened as he appeared a tad too late on the scene, allowing Siege Courageous to maintain his lead and dash to victory. Royal Mysore overhauled Sprinter’s Cup winner Time And Tide, to gain the runner-up berth.

Jadhav-trained Fighton, who lost a potential victory last time due to a cautious ride by jockey N.S. Parmar, returned to the track with a point to prove in the 1200-metre Racingpulse.in Trophy.

Royal Mysore reigns supreme in Pune City Gold Cup
14-Sep-2024: Trainer Prasanna Kumar has certainly upheld Bangalore`s rich tradition of producing champion trainers who venture out and conquer marquee events with enviable consistency. His latest foray at the Pune City Gold Cup saw him unleashing two of his equine stars—and both delivered like clockwork. Royal Mysore, after a sparkling five-race winning streak that was interrupted only by stablemate Siege Courageous, returned with a vengeance, toppling a strong local line-up and, in a fitting twist, the very horse that had bested him last time out. It was speed and tenacity that left the competition gasping in the final furlong.

Redefined storms to victory in S.A. Poonawalla Million
15-Sep-2024: Prasanna Kumar’s purple patch on the Pune track continues to dazzle, with the Bangalore-based trainer seemingly unstoppable. In a season where Pesi Shroff’s usually dominant stable is strangely off its stride and other contenders lack the firepower to match up, Prasanna Kumar`s horses are capitalizing on every opportunity. Following a double on Saturday, the trainer extended his winning streak in style as Redefined delivered a knockout performance in the Gr. 3, 1600-metre S.A. Poonawalla Million—a key prep race for next month’s Pune Derby on Sunday.

Touch of Grey’s Blaze of Glory with Leger Win
22-Sep-2024: Touch of Grey, who dazzled during last year’s winter season with victories in two Derbys, including the Guineas, had recently been playing second fiddle to Jamari in their past encounters. However, in one of the premier races of the RWITC racing calendar, Touch of Grey delivered a stunning performance, winning the Gr 1 HPSL Indian St Leger and silencing any doubts about his ability to handle the marathon 2800-metre trip, a challenge he was tackling for the first time.

It`s My Time claims King’s Ransom Trophy with ease
29-Sep-2024: Dallas Todywalla’s It’s My Time could not have asked for a more gracious gift than the 1400 metres King’s Ransom Trophy—a race where the competition was as threatening as a light breeze on a lazy afternoon. With opponents straight out of the "run-of-the-mill" collection, the five-year-old gelding, fresh off a leisurely break, graciously accepted the feature event of Sunday’s Pune races on a silver platter. It’s My Time, under jockey A Prakash, must’ve been thinking, "Well, if no one else wants to win, I guess it`s my turn."

Juliette strolls back; rivals left in awe
05-Oct-2024: Saturday’s Pune racing had one main attraction—the grand reappearance of the formidable mare, Juliette, who hadn’t been seen since her dominating run in the Indian Turf Invitation Cup at Kolkata back in March. With her towering presence in the 1800-metre Gr 3 Threptin Fillies & Mares Stakes, it was less of a competition and more of a formality. In fact, her very presence seemed to have scared off any serious challengers, forcing trainer Karthik Ganapathy to humor the audience by throwing in Dianne—a 23-rated filly—as, well, extra decoration.

Magneto hammers opposition in Suresh Mahindra Trophy
12-Oct-2024: The Suresh Mahindra Trophy, India`s only handicap race over 3200 meters for horses rated 80 and above, is more of an annual formality than a thrilling spectacle. With just three runners gracing the event this year—enough to make one question its continued existence in the racing calendar—Faisal Abbas-trained Magneeto effortlessly outclassed the tired duo of Ramiel and past victor Pissarro, winning by eight lengths at Pune on Saturday.

Miss American Pie serves a slice of humble pie
13-Oct-2024: In a classic case of “bake it till you make it,” M K Jadhav’s Miss American Pie whipped up a storm at the Noshir & Dolly Dhunjibhoy Sprint Million, leaving her rivals chewing on their pride at Pune on Sunday. Proving that she’s more than just a catchy name, the filly delivered on expectations, thanks to a favourable weight advantage and a gutsy front-running strategy under jockey N S Parmar’s watchful eye. With an early dash and a final furlong burst that had the rivals stranded, she claimed victory, making it a day to savour for her veteran trainer.
Redefined rewrites the script in Pune Derby drama
13-Oct-2024: In a plot twist that could make even the most jaded punter choke on their tea, Prasanna Kumar’s Redefined decided to rip up the racing script and toss it in the trash during the Gr 1 HPSL Pune Derby on Sunday. Facing off against the heavily favoured Santissimo, fresh off his Bangalore Derby triumph and armed with nothing but a mock race as preparation, Redefined stepped up, blunting the favourite`s effectiveness and defying expectations, leaving his rival looking utterly inadequate.

West Brook triumphs in the rain
19-Oct-2024: Sulaiman Attaollahi’s West Brook had everything fall perfectly into place in the 1600 metres Fair Haven Trophy, the feature event of Saturday’s Pune races, held amidst a downpour. The consistent West Brook got the best of both luck and opportunity as her main threats—Mojito, who lingered at the back, and favourite Rasputin, who faltered at the gates—had to play catch-up. Jockey Akshay Kumar positioned West Brook handily in fourth, and the filly by Western Aristocrat showed her class when it counted, delivering a winning gallop.

Knotty Legend returns in style; makes triumphant return
03-Nov-2024: Prasanna Kumar’s star pupil, Knotty Legend, returned from a 260-day hiatus and showed no signs of rust, delivering a stellar win in the 1600 meters General Rajendrasinhji Million. This feature race for three-year-olds, held at Pune on Saturday, saw the Gusto progeny live up to every bit of his pedigree, brushing aside competition that included none other than Field of Dreams, a conqueror of Pune Derby winner Redefined.
Geographique maintains a sublime form
03-Nov-2024: Imtiaz Sait-trained Geographique capped off her winning spree in style with a smooth, start-to-finish triumph in the 2000 metres Gr 2 Teena Katrak Memorial RWITC Ltd Trophy, wrapping up the Pune racing season on Sunday. The five-year-old mare, a proud progeny of Epsom Derby champ Golden Horn, made her third consecutive win look almost effortless, as her much-anticipated rival Evaldo seemed to forget the script entirely. Trainer Adhirajsingh Jodha and jockey Sandesh emerged as the season`s champions in their respective categories.
