Malaala swamps opposition in the feature at Malakpet

By: Tippu Sultan   September 18 , 2023

Laxman Singh trained Malaala sprouted wings as the five-year-old mare swamped the opposition in the 1400 metres Rani Rudramma Devi Cup, a race for horses rated 40 to 65, the feature event of Monday`s races held at Malakpet. The long shot who benefitted also by five kg claimer in Ajay Kumar, hit the front from the word go and kept expanding the lead in the homestretch to win by a widening margin of six lengths.

Magan Singh Parmar trained Strauss and Leo D`Silva`s Worcester were the market fancies. The race turned out to be eventful as Strauss was slammed along the rails by Lucky Zone whose rider Ajeeth Kumar changed course as if he was intent on blocking the favourite rather than taking a run along the rails. Malaala brought the field into view with Lucky Zone on her outside. Akshay Kumar on Strauss was making his run along the rails. Lucky Zone ducked towards the rails, resulting in Strauss receiving a bad check. Luckily for Akshay Kumar, he managed to stay put in the saddle though he was shaken by the incident and stopped riding. The interference looked sinister unless Ajeeth Kumar had reasonable grounds for changing course. Surely this would be a subject matter of an enquiry and we have to wait and see what course of action the Stipes would recommend for the Stewards to take. Malaala brooked no opposition as she won authoritatively from Lucky Zone and Worcester.

Satheesh trained High Reward pulled off a narrow win over the fancied See My Spark and Pinatubo in the 1100 metres Silver Jet Plate, a race for horses rated 40 to 65. Manohar Chauhan trained Garnet came in for big support but the chances were undone by apprentice jockey Ajay Kumar who went at a scorching pace from the outside draw so much so the front-runner had no legs left in the concluding stages of the race. High Reward closed with a rush to get the nod ahead of another fancied runner See My Spark. Pinatubo, Red Snapper and Garnet finished in a heap in the order mentioned.

Apprentice jockey Shivansh brought Saint Emilion with a late dash to pinch the verdict in the closing stride of the race from favourite Pancho in the 1200 metres Medak Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Classical Music led from the start and it took almost the length of the straight for Pancho to surge ahead which sapped his energy so much so that he had nothing much to offer when Saint Emilion came home with a menacing run. Classical Music was third.

Magan Singh Parmar trained Blazing Gun came in for big support in the 1200 metres Red Surprise Plate (Div I), a race for maiden three-year-olds. Blazing Gun had no problem in staving off the challenge of Magnum who was a suggestive second. Final Judgment was third more than six lengths adrift. The lower division of the race saw both Morning Mist and Fly Me coming in for big support. Morning Mist was reluctant to be stalled and when the handlers managed to push him in, he veered out at the start and dislodged his jockey, Suraj Narredu. Fly Me won the race as he pleased, by a widening margin of eight lengths. Subha who had run a noteworthy second last time out was a poor second but nevertheless six lengths adrift of the third-placed Magical Power.

Manohar Chouhan trained Clare came in for big support to end up as a strongly backed second favourite behind Golden Gazelle in the 1400 metres Play.hydraces.com Cup, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. Clare won the race with a measure of comfort, having the speed to race up in front and then drawing clear. Golden Gazelle who is bred to stay, took time to warm up and by that time, the race was in the safekeeping of Clare. Happy Soul was third.

Vittal Deshmukh trained Amalfitana was the beneficiary of a five kg claimer in Kuldeep Singh which brought the five-year-old mare to the previous winning mark in the 1600 metres Nizam Sagar Plate, a race for horses rated 20 to 45. The raw apprentices are useful when they are claiming five kgs, especially on horses who are free running in front. Kuldeep Singh bolted to the front on Amalfitana. The five-year-old mare had a big lead all through and despite drifting out of a straight course, had enough lead to win by a margin of over four lengths. The fancied Sundance Kid who did not have the speed at the jump out and graced the wrong end of the field, rallied in the straight on the wide outside but the front-runner was beyond his reach and finished second best. Grand Duke was third. Master Touch who came in for big support was not spotted at the busy end.
