Dictator dominates Darley Million with an authoritative win

By: Tippu Sultan   January 21 , 2024

Dictator, trained by Prasad Raju, showed remarkable dominance in the Darley Arabian Million, a 1200-meter terms race for three-year-olds held at Malakpet. Following a spectacular debut victory, Dictator lived up to expectations with another commanding performance. The progeny of Phoenix Power unleashed patented speed in the final furlong, leaving the favourite, Lashka, struggling in its wake. The racing events unfolded predictably in the six-card lineup, featuring a couple of surprising long-shot winners—a norm for every race day.

Despite Lashka, trained by Vittal Deshmukh, being an impressive winner in her previous outing and entering the race as a strong favourite, Dictator, for some inexplicable reasons, had fewer backers as the second favourite. A closer evaluation of their respective wins would suggest Dictator`s success should have been more anticipated. Notably, Lashka had two victories compared to Dictator`s one.

Under the guidance of jockey Sai Kumar, Dictator took control right from the start, with Born Brave in pursuit and Lashka racing keenly alongside In Proposito. Dictator shifted gears upon turning for home, establishing a significant lead. Despite strong efforts to accelerate, Lashka struggled, allowing Dictator to triumph by a margin of over four lengths. Lashka finished nine lengths ahead of the third-placed In Proposito.

In the Adala Raghava Reddy Memorial Million, a 1400-meter race for horses rated 40 to 65, Ruby Red, trained by Laxman Singh, validated her support with an impressive performance. Despite unexpected odds drift, the daughter of Roderic O`Connor, ridden by jockey Sai Kumar, confidently seized the lead turning for home. Under pressure, Ruby Red consistently exerted extra effort, crossing the finish line with a two-length advantage. Encore, Brooklyn Beauty, and the well-backed NRI Doublepower followed closely. A mishap occurred as Carlisle, leading from the start, fell back rapidly, causing a collision involving jockeys Anthony Raj and Shivansh.

Trainer Satheesh defied expectations with Royal Parade`s surprise win in the Lingapur Cup, a 1200-meter race for maiden three-year-olds. Despite being quoted at over 10 to 1, Royal Parade, ridden by Nakhat Singh, led from the front and comfortably secured victory. Glorious Power finished strongly, while stablemate Rolls Royce weakened to third.

Satheesh secured a double with the lesser-fancied Toffee winning the 1600 meters Rock Heaven Plate, leading from start to finish. Apprentice jockey Md Ekram Alam guided Toffee to an uncontested victory, with Only My Way and favourite NRI Ultrapower trailing in second and third.

In the 2000 meters Suryapet Plate, Vittal Deshmukh`s Trishul faced a challenge from Caraxes, trained by Raza Shehzad. Jockey Anthony Raj`s determined effort allowed Trishul to measure the front-runner in the dying moments, securing victory with Alpine Girl finishing third.
