Divine Prophecy comes good in Godolphin Million

By: Tippu Sultan   February 10 , 2024

Hilton Sequeira`s Divine Prophecy advertised her prowess in the 1400 meters Godolphin Barb Million, a race for three-year-olds, highlighting Saturday`s Hyderabad Races at Malakpet. The daughter of Dali surged ahead showing tremendous acceleration in the home run, leaving her competitors trailing far behind and securing victory well before the finish line. Sequeira, who had faced challenges in securing wins previously, enjoyed a fruitful day with a double triumph, narrowly missing out on a third victory. Trainer Prasad Raju also achieved double success among the trainers, while jockey Sai Kumar hogged the limelight with three winning rides.

Despite high hopes, Star Forever, disappointed on previous occasions, failed to live up to expectations once again in the main event. The progeny of Excellent Art, lacking initial speed, struggled to keep pace from the start and faltered in the final stretch. In contrast, Divine Prophecy seized control early on, surging ahead decisively and maintaining a commanding lead, leaving her rivals behind. Meanwhile, the favoured Star Forever faced difficulties in accelerating, ultimately conceding defeat. Duke of Tuscany made a late charge to secure second place, with Star Forever settling for third ahead of Get Lucky.

In the 1400 meters Brave Hunter Cup, where horses are rated 40 to 65, Laxman Singh`s Australia emerged as the clear favourite and soared to victory with commendable ease. With impeccable form and a lack of formidable competition, Australia seemed destined for success. True to expectations, the heavily backed favourite took control as they turned for home, surging ahead with authority. Despite a late charge from Reigning Beauty, Australia crossed the finish line before any threat could materialize. Meanwhile, Wallop And Gallop secured a place for trainer Ananth Vatsalya.

Prasad Raju trained Crown Witness shone again in the 1600 meters Bonzer Cup, designed for horses rated 20 to 45. Prasad Raju`s Crown Witness replicated his previous success. Despite a slow start in its last outing, Crown Witness had won well and was backed with confidence for another impressive performance. Maintaining a strong position throughout, jockey Sai Kumar didn`t hesitate to push Crown Witness forward as they entered the straight, securing a commanding lead by the final furlong. Sucker Punch and Alcahol Free surprised as long shots by claiming the spots behind the winner, while the highly anticipated Caraxes failed to make an impact.

In the 1200 meters Narayanpet Plate, featuring two divisions and designed for horses rated 40 to 65, trainer Prasad Raju experienced a mix of triumph and disappointment. The upper division witnessed a thrilling showdown, with Clefairy emerging victorious in a nail-biting finish, while the heavily favoured Midsummer Star faltered in the final stretch, dashing hopes of victory in the lower division of the race.

In the upper division, Hilton Sequeira`s Juramento entered as a top contender, closely followed by Garnet, who led from the start. Juramento chased Garnet relentlessly, engaging in a fierce battle down the final furlong. Just when Juramento seemed poised for victory, Clefairy, guided by jockey Sai Kumar, made a remarkable surge from behind, stealing the win by a narrow margin. Garnet settled for third place as Juramento was left to rue a missed opportunity.

The lower division witnessed Midsummer Star, coming off a recent win, receiving overwhelming support from punters. Initially living up to expectations, Midsummer Star surged ahead as they turned for home. However, in a surprising turn of events, Midsummer Star began to falter in the last 100 meters, allowing the underestimated D Minchu to make a late surge and claim a comfortable victory. Coming Home secured third place, leaving Midsummer Star`s backers shocked and disappointed.

In the 1400 meters Bhupalpally Plate, for maiden three-year-olds, an unexpected turn of events unfolded as a long shot from trainer Satheesh`s stable, White Pearl, snatched victory in the race`s final moments. Despite the reasonable favouritism towards stablemate Rolls Royce, it was White Pearl who ultimately emerged triumphant, shocking spectators with a late surge.

Rolls Royce considered a strong contender, took an early lead and engaged in a fierce battle with Oliver`s Mount throughout the final furlong. However, just as Oliver`s Mount appeared poised for victory, White Pearl, seemingly out of nowhere, made a remarkable sprint, clinching the win in a thrilling finish. Disappointingly for Oliver`s Mount`s supporters, victory slipped away in the final stride. While Rolls Royce settled for third place, the heavily supported Jungle Girl failed to make an impact, leaving backers in dismay at her lacklustre performance.

In the 1200 meters Medchal Plate (Div I), tailored for horses rated 20 to 45, Sequeira`s Miracle Mary lived up to expectations with a determined sprint down the final furlong, overtaking the frontrunner Golden Forza in the race`s closing moments to secure victory. Despite a year-long drought in wins, Miracle Mary, ridden by apprentice jockey Hindu Singh, garnered significant support from punters and delivered a commanding performance. Golden Forza, leading into the final furlong, displayed resilience but ultimately succumbed to the relentless charge of Miracle Mary. Deccan Daisy edged out Swiss Girl for third place in a tight contest. The Stipes had fined apprentice jockey Shivansh who rode Miracle Mary last time out Rs 3000 for his lackluster efforts on the horse.

In the race`s lower division, Leo D`Silva`s Silver Lining seized victory with a well-established lead in the final furlong, fending off a late surge from Bold Beauty. Despite being a favourite, D Battle failed to accelerate in time, settling for a distant third position. The narrow margin at the finish line dashed hopes of latecomer Bold Beauty.
