Lady Danger proves deadly for the opposition

By: Tippu Sultan   February 19 , 2024

Magan Singh Parmar`s trained six-year-old mare, Lady Danger, proved to be a formidable force in the 1800 meters Mirza Zunnur Ahmed Memorial Cup, a race designed for horses rated 40 to 65, which served as the highlight of the races at Malakpet on Monday. Asserting her dominance, Lady Danger surged ahead in the final furlong to claim a comfortable victory. Negotiating through a tight space between Trishul and Role Model in the final furlong, she asserted her superiority with a convincing win. Trainer Leo D`Silva continued his successful streak with a double, while former champions Hilton Sequeira and Donald Netto faced disappointment as their entries fell short of expectations.

Trishul, aiming for a hat-trick, entered the race as a strong favourite, closely followed by Only My Way, who garnered significant support. However, Only My Way lost ground early on, leaving Lady Danger to shine brightly down the homestretch. Despite some competition from Divine Destiny, Lady Danger maintained her lead effortlessly, leaving Trishul behind as she surged forward. Jockey Mohit Singh`s fine timing was crucial in Lady Danger`s triumph.

Golden Gazelle, previously unable to meet expectations, finally showcased her potential in the 1400 meters Mossy Bank Plate. Under the guidance of trainer Srinivas Reddy, who had been experiencing a lean period with just one win in the season, Golden Gazelle seized control in the final 300 meters, leaving her competitors trailing behind. While Rising Tycoon made a valiant effort, favourite Decoy failed to accelerate when needed, resulting in a significant gap between them and the winner.

Trainer Nilesh Rawal celebrated a double victory with the heavily favoured Beauty Flame and Ampere`s Touch. Beauty Flame, coming off a previous victory, effortlessly repeated her success in the 1600 meters Onnu Onnu Onnu Plate (Div I), leaving Sucker Punch to secure the runner-up position ahead of Silver Lining. The lower division of the race saw Ampere`s Touch justify the confidence placed in him by the punters. Despite Sundance Kid, carrying the top weight and also attracting betting attention, trailing behind initially and taking a wide turn, he made a commendable effort in the stretch, finishing a strong second. However, with a better ride, Sundance Kid could have posed a greater challenge to the winner.

Trainer Ananth Vatsalya celebrated a victorious moment with Federer in the 1200 meters Malvado Plate (Div II), a race designated for horses rated 20 to 45. Federer, strongly backed ahead of Glimmer Of Hope, showcased his speed by swiftly taking the lead upon entering the straight, leaving Glimmer Of Hope trailing behind in futile pursuit. Good Tidings secured the second position. In the upper division of the race, a thrilling battle ensued among four horses, with the final outcome determined only in the last stride. Under Md Ekram Alam`s guidance, Mukesh Kumar trained It`s My Life clinched victory by a neck over Riff, who, in turn, edged out Desert Sultan by a nose. Reigning Queen finished fourth, half a length behind.

The day commenced with Leo D`Silva-trained first-season runners dominating the first two races. Despite receiving significant support in the betting ring, Donald Netto-trained horses failed to live up to expectations, disappointing those who relied on the money wagered on them. Valenciana, favoured over Calistoga and Linda, disappointed in the upper division. While Valenciana struggled to perform, Calistoga exerted complete control over the race, securing a straightforward win without causing anxiety for supporters. Linda finished second, with Valenciana trailing poorly in third place. A similar scenario unfolded in the lower division, with River Deep heavily backed and Oliver`s Mount facing a backlash from his backers. Nonetheless, Oliver`s Mount, guided by jockey Afroz Khan, claimed a consecutive victory, seizing control in the final furlong with ease. Lady Jane pushed River Deep into third place.
