Whiskey, bravado, and the battle for survival
Whiskey, bravado, and the battle for survival Ah, the Bangalore Turf Club, where the spirits flowed as freely as the bravado of its members. Picture the scene: a meeting of former and current office-bearers, fueled by whiskey and a healthy dose of righteous indignation. With the government playing hard to get and refusing to grant the club the license it desperately craves, tensions were as high as the stakes at the races. The club, once a supplicant at the government`s door, now fancied itself a daring rebel, poised to impart a lesson to the head of the government, the Chief Minister, that he would remember for years to come.
Promises, plots, and a whole lot of horseplay
The Bangalore Turf Club has been caught in a web of broken promises and political gamesmanship, much to the frustration of the Chief Minister of Karnataka. Several years ago, amidst allegations of illegal betting and other unsavoury practices, the government suspended the club`s license, halting its operations. In response, the club`s Managing Committee promised reform and expansion, even going as far as to present a written pledge to the Chief Minister, vowing to increase membership and improve cooperation with the government and then doing the disappearing act!
Juliette steals the show in Mumbai racing finale
The magnificent mare, eight-year-old Juliette, once again asserted her dominance in long-distance races by effortlessly outclassing her rivals in the prestigious Gr 2 2400 meters C N Wadia Trophy. This event, reserved for four-year-olds and over, served as the highlight of the concluding day of Mumbai`s racing on Sunday. With Juliette in the lineup, the race was destined to be a one-sided affair, as her competitors, including Dyf and newcomer Jendayi, paled in comparison.
